Ship Pharsalia
DISTRICT OF MISSISSIPPI – PORT OF NEW ORLEANS
I, Chas. F. Winsor, Master or Commander of the ship Pharsalia, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear, that the within List, signed by me and now delivered to the Collector of this District, contains the names of all the Passengers, taken on board the said ship at the Port of Bremen or at any time since, and that all matters therein set forth, are, according to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true. I do further swear, that two of the said Passengers have died on the Voyage. (signed) Chas. F. Winsor. Sworn before me, this 11th day of Novr. 1846 (no signature) Collector.
List of all Passengers taken on board the ship Pharsalia whereof Chas. F. Winsor is Master, at the Port of Bremen and bound for New-Orleans.
Columns represent: name, age, sex, occupation, country to which they belong, deaths. Country of which they intend to become inhabitants was listed as U. States for all passengers.
[Ed. Excerpted from complete listing. Ernst Hch. is a perfect
match. Note that the
"7" listed below in Florentine's age could also be a "9" based on how a 9 is
formed with downstokes and lighter upstrokes, along with fading of the ink on
upstrokes. If we presume the transcriber misread the "9" as
"7" then the age fits perfectly with known birth date of Florentine,
Ernst's wife in the St.
Louis, MO Prasse Family Group Genealogy. Then we would have to shuffle a couple
of names around to get an exact match. Florentine would have to be Ernst's first
wife rather than his third. The names Florentine / Florentina / Florence / Flora
recur frequently in the lineage of the children listed below. Louise matches
with Louisa; Cath. below matches with Caroline (a later child is listed as
Catherine in the genealogy); John Hch. matches Henry; Herman matches with
Frederick in the genealogy (maybe middle name); and Carl Friedr. matches with
Carl Heinrich in genealogy -- so it's not much of a stretch to presume a
match. The date of immigration matches with the
date that had been previously presumed by the family. It is probably too close a
match to be ruled out as purely coincidental.]
